SIM troubleshooting checklist

Aug 29, 2024

We've found that these steps fix most of the problems encountered during the initial setup or from a random connection interruption.

SIM Card: A few things you should check from the SIM management side are:

* Check the SIM card is inserted correctly into the device.

* Does the device recognize the SIM? Can the device read the ICCID number?

Check your device LEDs for SIM card network registration status.

* Is the SIM activated from SIM provider?

* Have you tried using the SIM in another device? like mobile phone.

Using the SIM in a mobile phone is the easy way to verify the proper functioning of the SIM.

Network: Network registration and data connectivity

Network registration means that the SIM is allowed to the network, you can send SMS messages once registered. Data connectivity comes into play after network registration once you have allowed data (and roaming) on your device.

* Does the SIM support data connectivity?

Check with your SIM provider

* Check if the SIM has reached the data consumption limit.

Check with your SIM provider

* Have you set the correct APN settings?

You can find APN settings from SIM provider. Depending on the operator, APN settings are applied differently.

* Network coverage.

You may have problems in places where general cellular coverage is weak. For example, basements, warehouses, or remote areas. Make sure the selected network covers your area.

* Have you done a restart to your device?

Sometimes the easiest things help.
